Dense City
The proposal is an emphasis on the mountain scape of the city of Daejeon and its surroundings. The current skyline is strengthened by an urban design that has an inclination in rooftops. The area receives a strong identity by this proposed ascending in building heights that reaches its highest point directly next to the station. This highest building is logically the landmark and has a central and strategic position within the site and its wider context.
All rooftops have a green character not only to strengthen the concept of a mountain
scape, but also for an ecological assimilation of the rain-
The existing characteristic street pattern has been maintained mostly from which different urban areas have been defined. Introducing a richness of different building types and areas gives the site a liveliness in
experiencing its urban form. Walking, riding or driving through the area will become an experience of urban diversity.
The Daedong creek is upgraded and becomes the spine of the new Daedong park. This park creates an openness in the area from the neighbouring main street all the way towards the station. The creek and the park are widened towards the station to create a direct relation between the two of them.
A raised platform increases the accessibility of the station from the park and the neighbouring areas for pedestrians as a flyover on top of the car traffic.
The cluster of business areas and the shopping mall are positioned on the two sides of the square in front of the other side of the station, creating an excellent accessibility to both of these areas by car, train and
subway. The shopping mall has a physical connection to the park that runs over the railway tracks. This landscape bridge is a pleasant connection between both sides of the railway for pedestrians. Thereby will all train passengers become visually aware of this qualitative area with an unique combination of park and shopping mall.
